The United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) on Sunday completed the process of providing information on the Maoist army personnel to the Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction. The move follows a request of the Special Committee for the Supervision, Integration and Rehabilitation of the Maoist combatants.
“UNMIN released the data following an agreement with the parties. I view that the agreement is another positive step in the peace process,” said UNMIN Chief Karin Landgren in a statement. “With less than 100 days remaining in UNMIN’s mandate, it is critical for the parties to maintain the momentum and find the way forward on the issue of integration and rehabilitation. The mission will continue doing all that it can to lend its expertise and support to the process,” she added.
UNMIN has said it had collected the data as part of its activities related to the monitoring of arms and armies, and it remains committed to handling personnel data with confidentiality.
